Over 14 People Killed in Rivers State

No fewer than 14 persons have been gruesomely murdered on Saturday, by unknown gunmen in SimeTai community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The gunmen invaded the community, shooting sporadically which allegedly left fourteen people killed and several others with bullet wounds.

A source who confirmed the incident to our correspondent from the community alleged that five women were among the victims killed, disclosing that the remains of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary.

The source who pleaded anonymity further disclosed that the development has left the people of the area in panic and that some residents of the area have been sighted moving to close communities.

Speaking on the incident, the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate, House of Representatives, Oyigbo, Eleme-Tai Federal Constituency in the 2015 elections, Dr. Jacobson Nbina, said the killings were political.

Nbina said, “My brothers and sisters please help to pray for Sime community. The worst has just happened to me again! I earlier informed you of last weekend’s invasion of my home residence and the brutal killing of my security guard and my uncle with my driver escaping with bullet wounds at my gate!

“As I speak to you, over 20 PDP youths of my community Sime-Tai are brutally murdered and several others taken away alive as unknown gunmen invaded my community mid-night of yesterday. “

Similarly, some yet to be known gunmen also invaded Asaramatoru fishing settlement in Andoni Local Government Area of the state and allegedly kidnapped six persons.

A source within the area reported that the GunmenK “came with two gunboats and seven speedboats raided a fishing settlement of Asaramatoru area and left with six of their target.

As at the time of Press, the State police command had not reacted on the incidents.
